After doing night controls standing in the target area, day controls at the regular FAC stand with tables was a snap. There was another controller there, so we split up the available air. I controlled two missions. The first was a flight of three. I got two passes with live ordinance, then two simulated gun runs down the runway built in the target area. One had a switch problem, but I requested an immediate reattack, which went fine. The gun runs were pretty cool. The Hornets fly down the valley quite low, then pop up to put their rounds on target.
I think Predator is showing on cable this month. Every time the SEALs would see the airplane coming in to bomb, they would whisper “I seeeee yooouuuu….just beyond them treeeeeeees.”
There is nothing for me to do until Monday evening. I talked to my Beautiful Bride about going home, but we finally agreed that I would go visit Keith in San Diego instead. I couldn’t make a flight today, and the only direct flight leaves out of Reno quite early. So I would be getting up early to travel all the way across the country to spend a night before traveling all the way back. My Beautiful Bride already has a bunch of plans with her mom and sister, and since we are already planning a big weekend for the next one, it seemed an excessive cost for a few hours. 19 controls.
